Year in Review: 2024

A Note from Neurology Leadership

Colleagues,

I am excited to share that this year has been an incredible journey of growth and innovation for the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurology. We’ve made tremendous strides in advancing patient care, pushing the boundaries of research, and empowering the next generation of neurologic leaders to shape the future of medicine.

Research highlights included groundbreaking studies in Alzheimer’s disease, neurodegenerative diseases, and the intersection of reproductive health and epilepsy, and more, with findings published in leading journals. Clinically, the UPMC Stroke Institute expanded access to timely care and clinical trials, while new programs enhanced patient access and care. UPMC also contributed to cutting-edge advancements by serving as a trial site for innovative treatments, such as photodynamic therapy, NAUTILUS and the COMMAND Trial.

As we look to the future, I am confident that our collective efforts will continue to redefine what is possible in neurology and improve the lives of patients everywhere. I invite you to explore our highlights page to see examples of the outstanding work and dedication of our faculty.

Additionally, I encourage you to consider nominating UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside in the upcoming U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” survey. Your support helps us continue to deliver exceptional care and advance the field of neurology.

Respectfully,
