UPMC Physicians Participate in the 2024 Top of Mind Summit: Digital Health at the Center for Connected Medicine

This past April, several UPMC physicians attended and participated in the Top of Mind Summit: Digital Health. This invite-only event, organized by UPMC Enterprises and the Center for Connected Medicine at UPMC, brought together more than 70 thought leaders and innovative health care technology experts to discuss the most pressing issues in health care.

Discussion focused on key issues for health care leaders such as the role of AI, gaps in women’s health, technology disruption, and investment funding, plus a series of smaller group roundtable sessions on pharmacy innovation, workforce retention and growth, telemedicine opportunities, and driving behavioral change with technology.

TOM Keynote SessionOscar Marroquin, MD, Senior Vice President of UPMC and President of the UPMC Physician Services Division, along with Shivdev Rao, MD, UPMC cardiologist and CEO and Co-Founder of Abridge, kicked off the Summit with a powerful and thought-provoking keynote discussion surrounding AI solutions in health care. Dr. Marroquin and Dr. Rao focused on the essential role trust must play between all stakeholders — developers, clinical providers, end-user patients — in integrating AI tools within health care systems and delivery networks.

Suresh TOMSuresh Mulukutla, MD, Vice President and Chief Data and Analytics Officer of UPMC, joined digital health experts from Nicklaus Children’s Health System, Optum, Verily, and Astrata Inc., to discuss using AI in clinical decision support, predictive modeling for disease progression and risk assessment, and the development of metrics to evaluate specialist performance against predetermined quality and fiscal benchmarks.

Berliner TOMJennifer Berliner, MD, Director of Clinician Well-Being at UPMC, served as moderator for the "Workforce Retention and Growth" session. This roundtable examined the current challenges and possible strategies to address workforce shortages in the health care sector. Read more about what was discussed in the entire roundtable session.
