In this presentation, A.J. Conrad Smith, MD, and Saurabh Sanon, MD, FACC, discuss the UPMC Transcatheter Mitral Program and the management of mitral valve regurgitation.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Recall diagnostic skills by differentiating between primary and secondary mitral regurgitation
- Implement management of mitral valve repair through the use of the MitraClip and by understanding the changes shown in imaging after the procedure
- Identify which patients are best suited for use of the MitraClip and which can expect suboptimal outcome
- Identify mitral valve disorders by understanding the spectrum of associated procedures
- Implement management of stenotic valve by understanding the utility of balloon mitral valvuloplasty
- Implement selection of appropriate candidates for the MitralClip procedure
- Implement selection of appropriate candidates for the transcatheter mitral valve implantation procedure
- Implement management of mitral valve conditions where a previous procedure has already been completed
