Deepinder K. Dhaliwal, MD, L.Ac, to Receive ISRS Founders’ Award

Deepinder K. Dhaliwal, MD, L.Ac, will receive the International Society of Refractive Surgery’s Founders’ Award at Refractive Surgery Subspecialty Day on Friday, November 3.

The International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) is a partner of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and is the leading global organization for refractive and cataract surgeons. The ISRS aims to keep surgeons up to date on the latest clinical and research developments in refractive, cornea, cataract, and lens-based surgeries.

The Founders’ Award recognizes the vision and spirit of its founders by honoring an ISRS member who has made extraordinary contributions to the growth and advancement of the Society and its mission. Dr. Dhaliwal currently serves as a member of the ISRS executive committee and has served as a program director for Refractive Surgery Subspecialty Day in previous years. 

Dr. Dhaliwal is a professor of ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and director of Refractive Surgery at the UPMC Vision Institute. She also serves as the director of the UPMC Laser Vision Center, the associate medical director of the Campbell Ophthalmic Microbiology Laboratory, and clinical co-director of the Corneal Stem Cell Task Force at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Dhaliwal is the founder and director of the Center for Integrative Eye Care at the UPMC Vision Institute, which aims to systematically research alternative treatments for eye disease.

Dr. Dhaliwal earned her medical degree from Northwestern University and completed her residency in ophthalmology at UPMC, followed by a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of Utah. She is internationally recognized for her work, having taught ophthalmologists from around the globe; in addition to teaching and her clinical practice, Dr. Dhaliwal has authored numerous book chapters and journal articles and serves on the editorial boards of several ophthalmology journals.
