UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside Recognized as Best Regional Hospital for Equitable Access

UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside has been recognized as a Best Regional Hospital for Equitable Care by U.S. News & World Report. This new recognition honors hospitals that both excel in quality and provide substantial access to care to socioeconomically disadvantaged patients. UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside is one of only 53 hospitals in the country, and just two in Pennsylvania, recognized on the inaugural list from U.S. News.

The U.S. News honor was bestowed upon hospitals that received a Best Regional Hospital designation last year and:

  • Had 40% or more of their patients from a community of greater socioeconomic deprivation (according to the Area Deprivation Index)
  • Served 20% or more racial/ethnic minority patients or were in the highest tier in at least 1 of 5 measurers of racial and ethnic patient representation
  • Served 20% or more Medicaid patients or were in the highest tier in the measure of low-income patient representation
