The Heart Institute at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is pleased to announce that Gaurav Arora, MD, has been appointed as the new Director of Electrophysiology. Dr. Arora brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, and a proven track record of excellence in the field of pediatric cardiology and electrophysiology.
Dr. Arora is an associate professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Biology from Rice University. He then earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology, and Pediatric Electrophysiology at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Arora joined UPMC Children’s in 2006 to become associate director of Electrophysiology (EP), supporting a significant growth of the EP program in collaboration with Lee Beerman, MD.
Dr. Arora's commitment to patient care and dedication to excellence have been recognized with several accolades throughout his career, including the Best Doctors Award by Pittsburgh Magazine and the UPMC Excellence in Patient Experience Award. His passion for teaching and research has led to his involvement in various academic and scientific societies, further enriching the knowledge base of his field.
As the new Director of Electrophysiology, Dr. Arora will continue to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and compassionate care within the Heart Institute at UPMC Children’s and the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute. His visionary leadership, combined with his expertise and dedication to excellence in patient care, will further enhance the quality and volume of our electrophysiology services.
A Note of Thanks to Dr. Beerman
The Heart Institute at UPMC Children’s extends our sincere gratitude to Dr. Beerman for his extensive contributions as our prior, long-time Director of Electrophysiology. Dr. Beerman established the EP program at UPMC Children’s in 1985 and served as its director for nearly 40 years. His leadership and dedication have been instrumental in shaping the EP program, and we are grateful for his unwavering commitment to excellence.
Dr. Beerman is highly respected not only at UPMC Children’s but also throughout the local medical community in western Pennsylvania and nationally as a pediatric electrophysiologist. He has won numerous awards for his teaching and has contributed significantly to the literature of pediatric cardiology, particularly in electrophysiology. Dr. Beerman is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed his residency in Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He joined UPMC Children’s in 1977, where he completed his fellowship in 1979. Dr. Beerman remains part of UPMC Children’s Pediatric Cardiology staff to this day.
