January 28, 2023

Congratulations to Franziska Rosser, MD, Jane Taylor, MD, and Wei Chen, PhD, on being elected as new American Thoracic Society (ATS) Fellows.

The ATS Fellow designation is a mark of distinction, conferring recognition on members for their accomplishments, dedication, and contributions to the Society as well as to the fields of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine.

"Drs. Rosser, Taylor, and Chen have made significant contributions to pediatric pulmonary medicine through their clinical endeavors, research programs, and educational efforts. We are proud to have them as faculty members in our division and celebrate the recognition of their efforts in our field and for their service and commitment to the broader ATS community,” says Juan C. Celedón, MD, DrPH, ATSF, pediatric pulmonary medicine Division Chief at UPMC Children’s.

More About Dr. Rosser

Dr. Rosser specializes in caring for children with respiratory disorders. She is a member of the multidisciplinary Juvenile Systemic Scleroderma (jSSc) Center, the only such center in the nation, providing care for children with jSSc respiratory disease. Her research focuses on the epidemiological effects of outdoor air pollution on children with asthma. Dr. Rosser’s long-term goals are to develop innovative methods to identify children with asthma most at risk to the deleterious effects of air pollution. Additionally, while awaiting policy changes to improve air quality for all, she seeks to determine if individual interventions can improve asthma control and symptoms.

More About Dr. Taylor

Dr. Taylor has a passion for pulmonary management in children with neuromuscular disorders. Her research interests include extreme prematurity/chronic lung disease of infancy, interstitial lung disease, and neuromuscular conditions/airway clearance impairment. She is a co-director of the multidisciplinary Neuromuscular Clinic at UPMC Children’s. Dr. Taylor received the 2021 Clinician Educator Award from the ATS Pediatric Assembly, and she continues to serve as the web director for the ATS Pediatrics Assembly, among other education efforts within the organization.

More About Dr. Chen

Dr. Chen’s laboratory focuses on developing statistical and computational methods for the analysis of large-scale biomedical data and applying them to study complex diseases. Collaborating with colleagues, the lab uses cutting-edge technologies, including DNA-seq, RNA-seq, methylation, ATAC-seq and single cell sequencing to study human diseases, such as childhood asthma.
