UPMC Vision Institute Retinal Dystrophy Symposium

December 2, 2024

Please join the UPMC Vision Institute to learn more about the services offered and explore the new facility.

The UPMC Vision Institute is excited to announce the formation of a comprehensive center to assist you with patient care. The Vision Institute's goal is to establish a collaborative effort with eye care providers in the Pittsburgh area to create a center of excellence for the evaluation and management of local IRD patients. The patient benefits from a rigorous characterization of their condition utilizing novel diagnostic techniques, potentially paving the way for future trial participation.

The services offered at the UPMC Vision Institute include the following (to be presented and discussed during the symposium)

  • State of the art electrophysiological testing and imaging
  • Dedicated space for visual rehabilitation
  • Low vision and occupational therapy
  • Genetic counseling and testing
  • FDA-approved gene therapy
  • A suite for conducting clinical trials

Please note, the role of the RDCS is not to replace community and specialist care of IRD patients outside of UPMC, but rather to offer a more IRD-targeted bi-annual evaluation, as well access to novel trials through a central patient database. Evaluation in the RDCS will not preclude continuation of care by the referring retina specialists and community ophthalmologists and we will encourage patients to continue doing so.

Please RSVP by Monday, November 25th.
