"Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) and Cryptogenic Stroke"

  • Objective: The learner will be able to identify the signs and symptoms of PFO, be familiar with current treatment options and gain an understanding of which patients are candidates for PFO closure.
  • Content:

1. Discuss risk assessment of patients with PFO.

2. Review of guidelines and indications for PFO closure.

3. Understand currents gaps in the management of PFO.

"Pulmonary Embolisms – Current perspectives on diagnosis and treatment"

  • Objective: The learner will be able to define pulmonary embolism-etiology, diagnostic algorithms, classification. An understanding of treatment choices, with a focus on interventional procedures (catheter directed thrombosis and thrombectomy) will be discussed.
  • Content:

1. Identify patients with possible acute pulmonary embolism.

2. Discuss appropriate testing for diagnosis and risk stratification.

3. Discuss various approaches for treatment of pulmonary embolism including interventional techniques.

4. Review the concept of the pulmonary embolism response team (PERT).
