In this presentation, Matthew Schuchert, MD, and Omar Awais, DO, discuss how to identify malfunctioning gastric conduit after esophagectomy while properly evaluating and managing paraconduit hernias.

  • Identify malfunctioning gastric conduit after esophagectomy
  • Analyze, evaluate, and manage paraconduit hernias
  • Recognize nonfunctional conduit prior to surgery
  • Describe and enhance recognition of anastomotic leak following esophagectomy
  • Explain therapeutic armamentarium in treating esophageal leaks 
  • Implement and improve outcomes through early recognition and expeditious management of esophageal leaks
