UPMC Announces Partnership with INTERLINK COE Networks & Programs

April 19, 2024

UPMC is excited to announce our partnership with INTERLINK COE Networks & Programs as an addition to its solid organ transplant network. This partnership includes the adult transplant programs at UPMC Presbyterian, pediatric transplant programs at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and kidney transplantation at UPMC Harrisburg.

For more than two decades, INTERLINK has built Centers of Excellence (COE) networks for high-cost, low frequency medical procedures which are used by health plans across the United States. INTERLINK specializes in outcome-based transplantation program partnerships and has established affiliations with top-tier facilities nationwide, covering both solid organ and blood/marrow transplants, and offers payors a discounted rate providing access to their members requiring these specialized services.

Established in 1981 and having performed more than 20,000 adult and pediatric transplants to date, UPMC Transplant Services brings a reputation for both longevity and excellence in the world of transplantation. For more than 40 years, our experts have led the development of therapies and innovative treatment options to enhance the quality of life of patients of all ages and their families.

As a leader in organ transplantation services, UPMC is dedicated to advancing basic science and clinically applied research. Above all, we are committed to providing compassionate and complete care. Our mission is to provide services to all who will benefit, including those that would be considered too medically challenging at competing centers. With this partnership, UPMC is now designated as an INTERLINK Program of Excellence for solid organ transplants.

The UPMC Lung Transplant Program received an additional designation as part of INTERLINK’s ELITE status, which is the highest ranking for their Programs of Excellence. To attain this level, programs must demonstrate superior results across a wide range of validated risk-adjusted metrics.

UPMC directly partners with transplant case managers to enhance patient care. Our partnership with case managers is key to helping patients and their families navigate the transplant process. We strive to provide a seamless referral process, on-going education, and transplant resources for case managers to share with patients, including education about living donor transplantation, resources for finding a living donor, and multi-listing at more than one center.
